A "BV Reminder" for all our Village of Babylon Residents: As storm season is upon us and although there are no advisories for severe weather or flooding at this time, we remind our Village residents of the following:
*For our South of Montauk waterfront community residents, potential flooding may occur during heavy rainfalls, Nor'easters, etc. Village of Babylon Municipal Lots are available should you wish to secure your car from flooding.
*Please use the municipal lots at James Street (behind Gemellis), George Street, S. Carll Avenue (across from The Babylon Public Library) and the lot behind Bunger Surf Shop. Please always place a note in the driver's side windshield as to your parking there during a storm.
*For our boat owners always, please inspect your vessel, check your lines and make sure all bilge pumps are functioning properly and clear of debris. Batten down those hatches and make sure your vessel is prepared for inclement weather.
*With a possible chance of a Nor'Easter sometime this week, high winds can also be anticipated. Please also make certain that all loose objects or outdoor furniture is secured as well. Storm drains have been recently cleared throughout our community and are operational. However, storm drains will not stop the water coming in from the Bay. Our vehicles are prepared to handle storm debris. Many trees have been trimmed in anticipation of the storm season that we see here every year and around this time.
*During severe storms, Code Enforcement will monitor and then close down the streets leading to the Main Dock and the Village Pool. Only Village residents (and with ID) will be allowed down the streets during this time. This is to prevent any “wake” conditions and to protect our residents’ properties and any vehicles
*To report any electric outages or downed wires, please contact PSEG at : 1-800-490-0075 or PSEG’s text service to receive updates and report outages. To register, text REG to PSEGLI (773454). *Please remember that the Village speed limit is 25 mph and please be safe. If you must be somewhere during the storm hours, please leave earlier than normal for a safe arrival to your destination.
*Any storm updates necessary will be given through this platform and through our Village website and email blast notifications. During a storm, Code Enforcement can always be contacted at (631) 894-2949 and Mayor Adams at (516) 819-9596. The Babylon Fire Department is always on a "stand by" during extreme weather and emergency conditions . Babylon Central Station can be contacted at 631-226-1212 or simply call 911.
