Good afternoon, Babylon Village Residents:
As we are all aware and hopefully preparing, a Nor’easter is looking to impact our area between this evening, Friday, September 25th through Sunday, September 27th, 2026. Rain should be developing this afternoon and becomes widespread with winds increasing significantly. The heaviest of rains and strong winds are anticipated for Saturday and through the remainder of the weekend.
A wind advisory will be in effect for our area beginning Friday afternoon at 2:00 pm until Sunday morning at 6:00 am. Wind gusts can reach up to 55 mph.
At this time, estimated rainfall is up to 3 inches of rain. For our waterfront community, the combination of these strong winds with high tides are projected to cause moderate and possibly major coastal flooding.
Please be assured that the Village of Babylon, our Highway and Sanitation crews, Code Enforcement and the Babylon Fire Department are fully prepared to handle the upcoming storm and most important, if any of our Village residents are in need.
Storm drains over the last few months throughout our Village and in our waterfront community have been cleaned out and are operational. However, storm drains will not stop the water coming in from the Bay. Our vehicles are prepared to handle storm debris. Many trees have been trimmed in anticipation of the storm season that we see here every year and around this time.
We are beginning to monitor street flooding and Village Code Enforcement officers as needed will be closing South of Montauk streets leading to the Main Dock and the Village Pool. Only Village residents (and with ID) will be allowed down the south streets during this time.
Siegel Boulevard between Strong and Roosevelt where drainage issues are working on being repaired will also be closed down with Code Enforcement, if necessary. This is to prevent any “wake” conditions and to protect our residents’ properties and any vehicles.
Our Babylon Fire Department is prepared and if needed (and hopefully not), our high water truck is operational and ready to assist. I have declared a local State of Emergency that will begin today and will continue to remain in effect for as long as necessary but not to exceed past a five day period.
All Village departments will take whatever action necessary to provide assistance, to protect public safety, health, property and to provide service to the residents of Babylon Village.
This State of Emergency mobilizes our Babylon Fire Department and also authorizes the Suffolk County Police Department to prohibit or control all vehicular traffic throughout public streets in the village.
Babylon Village residents feel free to park your vehicles in any of our Village of Babylon Municipal Park Lots. Just please place a note in the driver’s side windshield as to your parking there during the storm. The municipal lots that are available for parking are: James Street (behind Gemellis), George Street, S. Carll Avenue (across from the Babylon Public Library) and the lot behind Bunger Surf Shop (72 E. Main lot).
Boat owners who are docked at Village marinas, please make sure your lines are tight and everything is secure at your boat slip. With the high winds that are anticipated, please also make sure that all loose objects and outdoor furniture is secured as well.

Please remember that the Village speed limit is 25 mph and please be safe. If you must be somewhere during the storm hours, please leave earlier than normal for a safe arrival to your destination.
