The Village Clerk read the legal notice:

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Board of Trustees of the Village of Babylon will hold a Public Hearing at the Municipal Building, 153 West Main Street, Babylon, NY, on Tuesday, July 12th, 2022, at 7:00 PM, or as soon thereafter as can be heard, to consider the adoption of proposed Local Law §343-67 of the year 2022 to amend Village Code Chapter §343-67, IX, to add stop signs at the following intersections:

      - on Livingston Avenue at the intersection of Gwynn Street

      - on Livingston Avenue at the intersection of Pilcher Street

      - on Fire Island Avenue at the intersection of Cedar Lane

      - on Locust Avenue at the intersection of Frederick Avenue

Complete text of the above Local Law is available in the Office of the Village Clerk, on the Village website: www.villageofbabylonny.gov, or can be requested by calling the Village Clerk’s Office at (631) 669-1500.

All interested persons should appear at the above time and place, and they will be given an opportunity to be heard.

Mayor Adams explained that many of the calls to her office are regarding safety concerns. This proposed local law to add stop intersections is an effort to slow down traffic and protect the safety of the residents.

The Board expressed some agreement and some reservations as to whether adding stop signs would be effective. With navigation apps such as Waze routing traffic via Livingston Avenue, slowing down traffic is necessary for safety. Concerns expressed included the need for better and increased Suffolk County Police enforcement in the area to control speed and dangerous driving.

The meeting was opened to the public; the following residents addressed the Board:

           Lee Johnson, 348 Livingston Avenue

           John Doll, 312 Livingston Avenue

           Joel Schwartz, 503 Gwynn Street

           Mike Hoyt, 57 Pilcher Street

           Ronald Pecoraro, 322 Livingston Avenue

           Andris Garsils, 601 Morrison Street

On the motion of Trustee Seibert, seconded by Trustee Silvestri and unanimously carried, the meeting adjourned at 7:18 PM.
