Public Hearing March 12, 2019; NZ-GREI Bakery, 134 N Carll Ave

A work session was held by the Board of Trustees of the Village of Babylon on Tuesday, March 5th, 2019.  On the motion of Trustee Silvestri, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried, the meeting opened at 4:10 p.m.  On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Adams and unanimously carried, the meeting adjourned at 5:05 pm.

The Village Clerk read the legal notice:

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Board of Trustees of the Village of Babylon will hold a Public Hearing at 153 West Main Street, on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. or as soon thereafter as can be heard to consider the application of Luisa Olivera of NZ- GREI, to open a Café / Bakery at 134 North Carll Avenue., the former location of Fire Island Shave Ice.

Copy of application and plans may be examined at the office of the Village Clerk, between the hours of 10am and 4pm Monday through Friday.

All interested persons should appear at the above time and place and they will be given the opportunity to be heard.  All applicants and their duly appointed representatives must appear in person at the above hearing.

Ms. Olivera approached the Board to explain her plans to open a bakery with fresh breads daily; all products will be made on premises.  She will not be serving bagels and there will be no alcohol service.  The hours of operation will be:

            Monday through Saturday:  5:00a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

            Sunday: 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The changes to be made to the location are primarily cosmetic and include new flooring, painting, and new equipment. A grease trap already exists; a separate garbage container in the back is emptied twice a week. Ms. Olivera is hoping to be open for business in May.

The Board emphasized that the employees should park in the Locust Avenue Lot; no neon signs are permitted and application will have to be made to the Architectural Review Board.

The meeting was opened to the public; no one spoke for or against this application.

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Silvestri and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to reserve decision.
