A work session was held by the Board of Trustees of the Village of Babylon on Tuesday, September 23, 2014.  On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried, the meeting opened at 7:05 p.m. On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried, the meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.

Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees opened at 8:02 p.m.

The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Trustee Davida.

On the motion of Mayor Scordino, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to approve the minutes of the September 9th, 2014 regular meeting of the Board of Trustees and dispense with the reading of the same.

The Village Clerk read the letter from the Fire Department:

At the regular monthly meeting of the Fire Council held September 16, 2014, the Fire Council took the following actions and we await your approval:

On the motion of Mayor Scordino, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to accept the Fire Department actions as read.

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to grant permission to Dr. David Scharf to temporarily maintain a P.O.D. type storage unit for approximately 4 – 6 weeks in the parking lot behind his office located at 98 East Main Street, and also behind Dr. Bedell’s Office located at 496 West Main Street, where he will work while construction is being done on his office.

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to issue a refund in the amount of $600 to Jeffrey Korade, who had berth #3 at Beach Canal. (His boat sunk in the August storm).

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to increase the annual salary of William Fisher $1,000, effective September 10, 2014, having completed his six month probationary period.

Trustee Muldowney commented that the annual Village Cup golf tournament will be held at the golf course on October 18th.

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Amelia and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to accept the resignation of Erik Hansen as a highway laborer effective September 19, 2014.

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Amelia and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to grant permission to Boy Scout Troop 194 to maintain temporary signs at various merchants throughout the Village, from November 1 – December 8, 2014, to advertise the 42nd Annual Spaghetti Dinner.

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Amelia and unanimously carried,

WHEREAS A PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD on Tuesday, September 9, 2014,

BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED to approve the application of Leo DeNicola, LCJ & J, LLC, to expand the Del Fuego Restaurant into the adjoining space at 115 Deer Park Avenue, subject to Covenants and Restrictions to follow.

Trustee Davida reminded everyone that this Saturday, September 27th, is the annual S.T.O.P. (Stop Throwing Out Pollutants) and Shred Day, open to Village residents. You must bring I.D. and proof of residency.

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to grant permission to the New York Youth Club, Inc. to fundraise in the Village of Babylon on Sunday, September 28, 2014, from 11:00a.m. to 6:00p.m.

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to grant permission to the Babylon Beautification Society to use the Highway garage on Saturday morning, November 29, 2014, to prepare the greenery for lamp post decorating, and on Sunday, November 30, 2014, for distribution of the decorations.

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to issue a refund in the amount of $15.15 to HSKE Corp. for overpayment of taxes on 397 W. Main Street.   (Section 12    Block 2    Lot 36)

Trustee Basile reported that the photo exhibit at the Conklin House this past weekend was very successful.  She also announced that the Apples and Arts Festival will be held at the Conklin House October 17th, 18th, and 19th.

On the motion of Trustee Amelia, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to decrease the assessment on the 2014 tax roll as per the attached Assessor’s Petition for:          21 Cameron Avenue     (Section 9, Block 2, Lot 7)

ALSO BE IT RESOLVED to issue a refund in the amount of $52.25 to Stephen Shea for the difference in assessment for the 2014 Tax Year.

On the motion of Trustee Amelia, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to grant permission to the Babylon Junior-Senior High School to hold the Homecoming Parade at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2014.  The parade will start in the Municipal parking lot behind Gemelli’s, head west on Main Street, turn North onto Carll Avenue, to Carlston Place, and proceed onto the track through the south-east gate of the field.

On the motion of Trustee Amelia, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to approve the following warrant for September 23, 2014:

General Account:        $ 590,535.15

Total General Fund:   $ 590,535.15

TOTAL:                     $ 590,535.15

Trustee Amelia commented that the tennis court project is moving along well; the courts should be ready within the next few weeks.

On the motion of Mayor Scordino, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to approve the applicant listed below to drive a taxi cab for Sunset Taxi in the Village of Babylon:

RESOLVED to approve the applicant listed below to drive a taxi cab for Lindy’s Taxi in the Village of Babylon:

Mayor Scordino made the following announcements:

Village of Babylon Offices will be closed and there will be no rubbish or garbage pick-up on Monday, October 13, 2014, in observance of the Columbus Day Holiday.  Residents should not put rubbish or recycling out to the curb on holidays.  These items should be put out the following week on your regular scheduled rubbish / recycling day.

The Village of Babylon, in conjunction with the Department of Environmental Control, will participate in its 24th annual S.T.O.P. (Stop Throwing Out Pollutants) Day this Saturday, September 27, 2014, from 9:00a.m. to Noon, at the Village Highway truck bay on Carlston Place.  New this year, we will have a paper shredding truck available to Village Residents.  For further information or questions, please call 669-4878.
