A work session was held by the Board of Trustees of the Village of Babylon on Tuesday, October 11th, 2016.  On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried, the meeting opened at 7:20 p.m.  On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Adams and unanimously carried, the meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m.

REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

OF THE VILLAGE OF BABYLON WAS HELD IN THE BOARDROOM,

153 WEST MAIN STREET, BABYLON, NEW YORK,

ON TUESDAY,

OCTOBER 11th, 2016

PRESENT:

Mayor Ralph Scordino

Trustee Kevin Muldowney

Trustee Debbie Basile

Trustee Tony Davida

Trustee Mary Adams

ABSENT:

Attorney Joel Sikowitz

Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees opened at 8:02 p.m.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Trustee Basile.

On the motion of Mayor Scordino, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to approve the minutes of the September 27th, 2016, regular meeting of the Board of Trustees and dispense with the reading of the same.

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Adams and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to grant permission to the First Presbyterian Church to maintain temporary signs on the front and interior fences of the building located at 79 E. Main Street as indicated:

            November 1st to 30th:   “Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart”

            December 1st to 30th:    “Merry Christmas”

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Adams and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to hire Joseph Raftery as a part-time Highway Laborer, with a salary of $10.50 per hour, effective September 6, 2016.

On the motion of Trustee Adams, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to grant permission to the Babylon Lion’s Club to maintain temporary signs at various merchants throughout the Village, from October 12th until November 11th, 2016, to advertise the Beer, Wine, Food, & Dessert Expo to be held on November 10, 2016.

On the motion of Trustee Adams, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED, that pursuant to New York State General Municipal Law, Section 104 (b), MAYOR RALPH SCORDINO, the TRUSTEES,  PATRICIA CARLEY, Village Clerk, IRENE IVANOFF, Court Clerk, CHARLES GARDNER, Superintendent of Public Works, SUZANNE SCHETTINO, DEBORAH LONGO, THOMAS STEFFANN, and SCOTT GLENN and MICHAEL GOLUB of the Babylon Village Fire Department, are responsible for purchasing.

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to grant permission to the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition to maintain temporary signs at various merchants throughout the Village, from October 12th to October 26, 2016, to advertise their Masquerade for a Cure event.

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to hire Paul Mahlmann as a part-time Highway Laborer with a salary of $10.50 per hour, effective September 13, 2016.

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to grant permission to the Babylon School District to hold the Homecoming Parade on Saturday, October 15th, 2016, starting at 12:00 Noon in the municipal lot behind Gemelli’s. The parade will head West on Main Street, turn North onto North Carll Avenue, and proceed to the Football field parking lot.  This permission is granted contingent upon timely receipt of required Certificates of Insurance with the Village of Babylon listed as an ‘Additional Insured’, as well as a signed and notarized ‘Hold Harmless’ Agreement.

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to approve the following warrant for October 11th, 2016:

General Account:                     $ 245,802.77

TOTAL GENERAL FUND:    $ 245,802.77

TRUST FUND:                        $     8,176.56

TOTAL:                                   $ 253,979.33

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to terminate the employment of Lawrence Murray as a Golf Course Laborer effective September 9, 2016.

On the motion of Mayor Scordino, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to grant a license to the following applicant to drive a taxi cab for Lindy’s Taxi in the Village of Babylon:            Mushir Jalal                                         

Mayor Scordino made the following announcement:

The Board of Trustees of the Village of Babylon will hold a Public Hearing on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at 7:00 p.m., to consider the adoption of Local Law #8 of 2016, which is a Local Law to amend current Village Code, Section 369, pertaining to Boat Berths.

The meeting was opened to the public;  no one addressed the Board.

Meeting adjourned 8:10 p.m.
