A SPECIAL MEETING of the Board of Trustees was held on Thursday, March 19, 2015On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried, the meeting opened at 5:00 p.m. On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried, it was RESOLVED to certify the Election Results from the General Village Election held on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, as per the attached.  On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried, the meeting adjourned at 5:03 p.m.   

A work session was held by the Board of Trustees of the Village of Babylon on Tuesday, March 24, 2015.  On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Amelia and unanimously carried, the meeting opened at 7:15 p.m.  On the motion of Trustee Amelia, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried, the meeting adjourned at 7:43 p.m.

Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees opened at 8:02 p.m.

The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Trustee Davida.

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Amelia and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to approve the minutes of the March 10, 2015 regular meeting of the Board of Trustees and dispense with the reading of the same.

The Deputy Village Clerk read the letter from the Fire Council dated March 19, 2015:

At the regular monthly meeting of the Fire Council held March 17, 2015, the Fire Council took the following actions and we await your approval:

Took off Sick Leave with Medical Clearance:

       Richard Oehrlein as of February 26, 2015

Placed on Sick Leave:

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Amelia and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to accept the Fire Department actions as read.

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Amelia and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to grant permission to the Captree Power Squadron to hold their “Ready, Set, Wear It”  Safe Boating Event on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at the Village Pool Parking lot from approximately 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  This permission is granted contingent upon timely receipt of required Certificates of Insurance with the Village of Babylon listed as an “Additional Insured”.

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Amelia and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to increase the fees at the Gilbert C. Hanse Municipal Pool, effective March 24, 2015, to the following rates:

                        Family Membership:   $100.00

                        Senior Membership:    $  15.00

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Amelia and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to increase the application fee for Block Parties to $100.00, effective March 24, 2015.

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Amelia and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to accept the assessment changes for the 2015/16 Tax Year as per the Board of Assessment Review, as indicated on the attached Assessor Petitions [for the parcels listed].

On the motion of Trustee Amelia, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to grant permission to the Babylon Village Arts Council to use the Conklin House for the eighth annual Summer Concert on July 18, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.  This permission is granted contingent upon the timely receipt of required Certificates of Insurance with the Village of Babylon listed as an “Additional Insured”.

On the motion of Trustee Amelia, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to approve the attached list of requests for events and sidewalk access from the Chamber of Commerce as well as their request to hold the Fall Harvest Festival on October 17, 2015, and the Old Fashioned Village Christmas Shopping Night on December 4, 2015, both requiring partial road closures of Deer Park Avenue.  

Permission is granted contingent upon timely receipt of required Certificates of Insurance with the Village of Babylon listed as an “Additional Insured”.

On the motion of Trustee Amelia, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried, it was

Mayor Scordino made the following announcements:

The Budget for the 2015-2016 Fiscal Year was received by the Village Clerk from the Village Treasurer on March 20, 2015, and has been presented to the Board by the Village Clerk.

Please Take Notice that the Annual Budget Hearing will be held on Monday, April 6, 2015, at 7:00 p.m., where comments relating to the tentative budget will be heard.

Immediately following the Budget Hearing, the Annual Organizational Meeting will be held.

The Village of Babylon Offices will close at 12:00 Noon on Friday, April 3rd, 2015, in observance of Good Friday.

Mayor Scordino was honored to acknowledge all the Boy Scouts in attendance.

Peter Gillen addressed the Board and explained the Badge they are working on; he asked for an explanation of making a motion for a resolution and the significance of ‘seconding’ the motion.

Mayor Scordino also proudly acknowledged Hayden Ivy, from West Islip Troop 95, who attended the meeting.

Hayden Ivy addressed the Board and commented on how the Mayor recently helped him as he worked towards a badge that required him to discuss laws and political views.

Mayor Scordino commended the Boy Scouts for the fine job they are doing, especially with the many great Eagle Scout Projects throughout the Village over the past years.

The meeting was opened to the public;

Frank Curtin, 420 Fire Island Avenue, inquired about the Assessor Petitions/Board of Assessment Review, and asked about the decision on the Tax Cap Override.

Meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
