REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF BABYLON WAS HELD IN THE BOARDROOM OF THE MUNICIPAL BUILDING 153 WEST MAIN STREET, BABYLON, NEW YORK ON TUESDAY,

 

JUNE 28, 2011

 

PRESENT: Mayor Ralph Scordino

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried

 

Mayor Scordino opened the work session at 7:35 p.m.

 

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously  carried

 

Mayor Scordino adjourned the meeting at 8:03 p.m.

 

The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees opened at 8:05 p.m.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Trustee Basile

 

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Vanderveldt and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: approve the minutes of the previous meeting and dispense with the reading of the same.

 

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Vanderveldt and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: approve the actions taken at the regular meeting of the Fire Council held on June 21, 2011.  Placed Theodore Lutz of the Hook & Ladder Company No. 1 on sick leave as of June 9, 2011. Added James Kelly to the Driver’s List of Unit 1-2-10.  Added James Kelly to the Driver’s List of Unit 1-2-7.  Added John Snyder and Kevin Kelland to the Driver’s List of Unit 1-2-7.  Took Richard Oehrlein of the Electric Hose Company No. 4 off sick leave as of June 1, 2011.  Accepted Jason Witthon as a Probationary Firefighter in Argyle Hose Company No. 3.  Accepted John Capizzi as a Probationary Firefighter in Electric Hose Company No. 4.  Changed the status of Epifanio Gonzalez in the Hook & Ladder Company No. 1 from Active Member to Senior Inactive Member.

 

On the motion of Trustee Vanderveldt, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: the Village change dental insurance companies for our Village employees from MetLife to Lincoln Financial Group, effective July 1, 2011.

 

On the motion of Trustee Vanderveldt, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: grant permission to La Famiglia located at 90 W. Main Street to maintain a temporary Grand Opening sign on the building and also out front near the curb sign.

 

On the motion of Trustee Vanderveldt, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO:  issue a refund in the amount of $200.00 for the overpayment of taxes

Section  5   Block  3   Lot  20.1 – 29 Frederick Ave.

 

On the motion of Trustee Vanderveldt, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: hire Dennis M. Purcell as a full time Highway Laborer with an annual salary of $20,800, effective June 27, 2011.

 

On the motion of Trustee Vanderveldt, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO:  accept the resignation of Robert Lucky as a part time Sanitation Laborer effective June 14, 2011.

 

Trustee Vanderveldt announced that the summer recreation program is going well.

 

On the motion of Trustee Vanderveldt, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: hire Joey Bauknight, as a part time Sanitation Laborer, with a salary of $8.00 per hour, effective June 20, 2011.

 

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Vanderveldt and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: grant a leave of absence to Christopher Spicer from the Highway Department for a period of approximately four months commencing June 3, 2011.

 

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Vanderveldt and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: issue a refund in the total amount of $50.00 for the return of ZBA signs for a partial refund.

RESOLVED TO: issue a refund in the total amount of $1750.00 to Raymond Netunno, his berth #9 at main dock is being sublet for this season, in addition he also paid for the electric.

 

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Vanderveldt and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED THAT:  the Village change life insurance companies for our Village employees from Guardian Life Insurance Company of America to Lincoln Financial Group, effective July 1, 2011.

 

Trustee Muldowney announced that the Jr. Clinic at the gold course will be in July, if anyone is interested they should call Joe Molloy.

 

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: re-hire David Gardner, as a seasonal code enforcement officer with a salary of $8.50 per hour, effective June 23, 2011.

 

 

 

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: hire Kerri Whalen Swim Team Coach ($500.00) per season

 

ALSO RESOLVED TO: have Michael Kamme teach the Lifeguard Training Course at the pool.

 

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: issue a refund to the following for duplicated payment on taxes for the following properties:

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED THAT: the Village of Babylon adopt the Amnesty Ticket Program for the Village of Babylon Court, effective May 1, 2011.

 

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: approve the following warrant for June 28, 2011

General Fund:                           $178,208.71

Conklin House Fund:                $    __

Golf Course Account:               $    1,210.51

Fountain Fund:              $       897.71

Totally General Fund:                $180,316.93  

Trust Fund:                               $    1,452.68

Total:                                        $181,769.71

 

Trustee Davida announced that the pool opened on Friday, June 24th for the season and swim lessons started on Monday.

 

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: change the broker of record for the Village employees’ dental, life and vision insurance policies from Fitzharris Agency to JayMar Insurance Agency.

 

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: grant permission to the resident of Paumanake Ave. to hold a block party on Saturday, August 13th 2011 from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

 

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: increase the salary of William Whittier to $30.00 per hour effective June 20, 2011.

 

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED THAT: hire Joseph Manfredi as a part time code enforcement officer with a salary of $8.25 per hour effective June 24, 2011.

 

On the motion of Mayor Scordino, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: re-appoint James Gowan as Special Counsel for Tax and Certiorari proceedings for one year at a rate of $175.00 per hour.

 

 

Mayor Scordino announced that Village of Babylon Offices will be closed on Monday July 4, 2011 in observance of the Independence Day holiday.

Just a reminder that residents cannot put rubbish or recycling out to the curb on holidays.

These items should be put out the following week on your regular scheduled rubbish/recycling day.
