REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF BABYLON, WAS HELD IN THE BOARDROOM OF THE MUNICIPAL BUILDING, 153 WEST MAIN STREET, BABYLON, NEW YORK ON TUESDAY,

 JULY 12, 2011

PRESENT: Mayor Ralph Scordino

Trustee: Alice Vandervledt

Trustee: Tony Davida

Trustee: Debbie Basile

Attorney: Joel Sikowitz

Absent: Trustee Kevin Muldowney

 On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried

 Mayor Scordino opened the work session at 7:25 p.m.

 On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried

 Mayor Scordino adjourned the meeting at 8:00 p.m.
Regular meeting opened at 8:05 p.m.

The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Trustee Vanderveldt

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Vanderveldt and unanimously carried it was       

RESOLVED TO: approve the minutes of the previous meeting and dispense with the reading of the same.

On the motion of Trustee Vanderveldt, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

RESOLVED TO: grant permission to the Babylon Tuna Club to hold the Annual 55th Invitational Tuna Tournament at the Village Docks from Thursday, July 28th up to and including Sunday, July 31, 2011.

On the motion of Trustee Vanderveldt, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

RESOLVED TO: grant permission to Positions Dance Studio, 20 Deer Park Ave. to maintain a sign in one of the four front windows.  The request is for the months of May, June, July and August.

On the motion of Trustee Vanderveldt, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was 

RESOLVED TO: issue a refund in the amount of $125.00 to Beverly Thurber-Flaherty and Brian Flaherty, they are giving up reserved parking spot #716.

On the motion of Trustee Vanderveldt, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

RESOLVED TO: issue a refund in the amount of $210.00 to Karla Corcoran, she moved from slip # 44 Main Dock to slip # 31 at Argyle ( smaller slip).

On the motion of Trustee Vanderveldt, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

RESOLVED TO: hire Lenard Spann as a part time Sanitaiton Laborer with a salary of

$8.50 per hour, effective June 27, 2011.

On the motion of Trustee Vanderveldt, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

RESOLVED TO: hire Andrew Alvarez as a full time Auto Mechanic III with an annual salary of $62,400.00 effective July 5, 2011. 

Trustee Vanderveldt announced that the recreation program was in its second week. There will also be seven more concerts at the gazebo. 

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried it was

RESOLVED TO: rehire George Burke as a seasonal Dock Guard, with a salary of $9.50 per hour, effective June 1, 2011.

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried it was

RESOLVED TO: issue a refund in the amount of $35.00 to Theresa Larsen for Bryan Larsen’s guard start registration at the Village Pool.

ALSO RESOLVED TO: issue a refund in the amount of $35.00 to Jeanne Kaible for Julia Kaible’s swim lesson registration at the Village Pool.       

 ALSO RESOLVED TO: issue a refund in the amount of $30.00 to Christa Zimmer’s swim team registration at the Village Pool.

  On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried it was

 RESOLVED TO: grant permission to Young Imagination, 130 Deer Park Ave. to maintain a temporary sign in the window between July 15th and July 30th 2011.

 On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried it was

 RESOLVED TO: grant permission to the residents of Nehring Ave. to hold a block party on Saturday, August 6th 2011 from 12:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. with a rain date of Sunday, August 7, 2011.  The street will be blocked between West Gate and Nehring Ave.

 On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried it was

 RESOLVED TO: issue a license to Anthony Gonzalez to drive a taxi cab in the Village of Babylon for Lindy’s.

 On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 RESOLVED TO: hire Peter Lyons as a part time Sanitation Laborer, with a salary of $8.50 per hour, effective July 5, 2011.

 On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 RESOLVED TO: issue a refund in the amount of $50.00 to Pierre Rovira for the return of (2) two ZBA signs for a partial refund.

 On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 RESOLVED TO: issue a refund for duplicate payment of taxes for the following:

Section  16  Block  4   Lot  25  26 Trask Lane              $1,673.13

Section  9    Block  2   Lot  16  58 Argyle Ave. $1,671.88

Section  16  Block  4   Lot  36  328 Fire Island Ave.     $ 1,797.50 

 On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 RESOLVED TO: hire Peter Lyons as a part time Sanitation Laborer, with a salary of $8.50 per hour, effective July 5, 2011.

 On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 RESOLVED TO: grant permission to St. Joseph Church, 39 North Carll Ave. to maintain a temporary sign on the front lawn of the parish Center from the date of approval to August 8, 2011.

 On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 RESOLVED TO: establish Alliance Electrical Inspections Limited as an Electrical Inspection Agency, which will replace New York Board of Fire Underwriters, for the Village of Babylon effective August 1, 2011.

 Trustee Basile announced that there are art classes being held at the Conklin House.

 Mayor Scordino announced that there will be a Public Hearing on Tuesday, August 9th 2011 to consider the adoption of Local Laws #1-8 of the year 2011.

 The Mayor also announced that there will be no second meeting Board Meeting in August.

 The above named residents came to express their concern with the traffic light on the corner of the Crescent and Fire Island Ave. and Reid Ave. and Virginia Rd.  They asked the Mayor and the Board of Trustees to consider making the light a blinking red light on all sides or having a four way stop sign. The Mayor and the Trustees listened to their concerns.  Mayor Scordino indicated that he would speak with someone from the DOT and have the Village Engineer go to the site.
