A work session was held by the Board of Trustees of the Village of Babylon on Tuesday, January 7, 2014.  On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Amelia and unanimously carried, the meeting was opened at 4:01 p.m. On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried, the meeting was adjourned at 4:50 p.m.

Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees opened at 8:05 p.m.

The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Trustee Muldowney.

On the motion of Mayor Scordino, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to approve the minutes of the December 10th, 2013 regular meeting of the Board of Trustees and dispense with reading of the same.

The Village Clerk read the letter from the Fire Council dated December 18, 2013:

At the regular monthly meeting of the Fire Council held December 17, 2013, the Fire Council took the following actions and we await your approval:

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to accept the Fire Department actions as read.

On the motion of Trustee Amelia, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to grant permission to the Babylon Beautification Society to use Argyle Park and the Gazebo area for this year’s Country Fair, to be held Sunday, September 7, 2014, with a rain date of September 14, 2014.  This includes permission for Trolley service, which will be arranged by the Village.

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to remove the current exemptions and restore full assessment to the properties listed below, and bill the new owners accordingly, for the 2013/14 Tax Year.

Trustee Basile announced that there will be a Valentine Tea at the Conklin House on Sunday, February 9, 2014, from 1:00pm-3:00pm.

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Amelia and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED that the Treasurer of the Village of Babylon be directed to hold a tax sale at the Municipal Building at 153 West Main Street, Babylon, New York, on Saturday, the 22nd of February, 2014, at 10:00 a.m.

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to increase the salary of David Fava .50 ₵ per hour, effective January 13, 2014.

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to grant permission to the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition to maintain temporary signs from January 15 to February 2, 2014, at various merchants in the Village, to advertise their Super Saturday Fundraiser at Lily Flanagan’s on February 1, 2014.

Trustee Muldowney commented that despite the temporary slow down with the inclement weather, the reconstruction project at the Lewis Pond marina is continuing.

On the motion of Mayor Scordino, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried,

WHEREAS a Bid Opening was held on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at 9:30 a.m., for the Requirements Contract for Drainage Work,  BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED to award the bid to:

Woodstock Construction Group, LTD, 350 Lexington Avenue, Oyster Bay, NY  11771, as the lowest responsible bidder with a bid of $652,225.00.

On the motion of Mayor Scordino, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to approve and grant license to the Michael Gaudioso to drive a taxi cab for Sunset Taxi in the Village of Babylon.

On the motion of Mayor Scordino, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried, it was

RESOLVED to approve and grant license to Allison Paveglio to drive a taxi cab for Lindy’s Taxi in the Village of Babylon.

Mayor Scordino made the following announcements:

Village of Babylon offices will be closed and there will be no rubbish or garbage pick-up on Monday, January 20, 2014, in observance of the Martin Luther King Day Holiday.  Residents should not put rubbish or recycling out to the curb on holidays.  These items should be put out the following week on your regularly scheduled rubbish / recycling day.

The Board of Trustees will hold a Public Hearing on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at 7:00pm to consider the application of Frank Bragaglia, 512 Daryl Drive, Medford, NY  11763, to open a Burger and Craft Beer Bar / Restaurant at 262 Deer Park Avenue, currently known as Joe Michael’s.
