MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF BABYLON

WAS HELD IN THE BOARDROOM OF THE MUNICIPAL BUILDING 153 WEST MAIN STREET, BABYLON, NEW YORK ON TUESDAY

OCTOBER 23, 2012

PRESENT: Mayor Ralph Scordino

Trustee: Kevin Muldowney

Trustee: Debbie Basile

Trustee: Davida

Attorney: Joel Sikowitz

Absent: Trustee Alice Vanderveldt

 

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried

 

Mayor Scordino opened the work session at 7:17 p.m.

 

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried

 

Mayor Scordino adjourned the meeting at 8:00 p.m.

 

Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees opened at 8:03 p.m.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Trustee Davida

 

On the motion of Mayor Scordino, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: approve the minutes of the previous meeting and dispense with the reading of the same.

 

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: approve the actions taken at the meeting of the Fire Council held on Tuesday, October 16, 2012.  Took Kenneth Foley of the Sumpwams Hose off sick leave as of October 1, 2012.  Placed Christopher Rugen of the Phoenix Hose off sick leave as of October 2, 2012.  Took Kevin McKenna of the Phoenix Hose off sick leave as of October 11, 2012.  Placed Regina Anderson of the Rescue Squad on sick leave as of September 14, 2012.  Placed Dawn Losee of the Rescue Squad on sick leave as of September 8, 2012.  Placed Angelin Sfoglia of the Rescue Squad on sick leave as of July 24, 2012.  Accepted the resignation of Christopher Clark of the Sumpwams Hose from the Department.

 

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: re-appoint Judy Skillen to the Planning Board for a five year term which will expire November 2017.

 

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: hire John Aziz as a part time Highway Laborer with a salary of $8.50 per hour, effective October 15, 2012.

 

Trustee Muldowney reported that on October 13th the Village Cup was held with twenty organizations and forty people.  The Babylon Fire Dept. won with Mike Golub and Chris O’Shea representing them.

 

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile, and unanimously carried it was   RESOLVED TO: hire Robert Kral as an Auto Mechanic 1, with an annual salary of $26,800, effective October 9, 2012.

 

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: re-appoint Philip Franke as Chairman of the Architectural Review Board for a three year term which will expire November of 2015.

 

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: approve the following warrant for October 23, 2012

 

General Account:

$245,160.67

Conklin House Account:

$    3,141.83

Golf Course Account:

$    2,549.74

Total General Fund:

$250,852.24

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED THAT: the Village of Babylon will hold an Election on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 for two Trustees and a Village Justice, each for a term of four years.

 

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: issue a refund to the following for the return of ZBA signs for a partial refund.

Seidner, Rosenfield & Guttentag, LLP          $50.00

William Hill                                                   $25.00

 

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: grant permission to the Babylon Village Women’s Club to maintain signs in various merchant windows in the Village from October 24th thru November 2nd 2012.

 

Trustee Basile announced that the Apples and Arts was a huge success.

 

Mayor Scordino announced that there will be a Public Hearing on Tuesday, November 13th 2012 to open a yogurt shop at 80A Main St.

 

Mayor Scordino also announced that Village Offices will be closed and there will be no rubbish or garbage pick-up on Monday, November 12, 2012 in observance of the Veterans Day Holiday.  Just a reminder that residents cannot put rubbish or recycling out to the curb on Holidays.  These items should be put out the following week on your regular scheduled rubbish/recycling day.
