REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF BABYLON WAS HELD IN THE BOARDROOM OF THE MUNICIPAL BUILDING 153 WEST MAIN STREET, BABYLON NEW YORK TUESDAY,

 

JUNE 26, 2012

 

PRESENT: Mayor Ralph Scordino

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Vanderveldt

and unanimously carried 

 

Mayor Scordino opened the meeting at 7:10 p.m.

 

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basil and unanimously carried

 

Mayor Scordino adjourned the meeting at 7:50 p.m.

 

Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees opened at 8:00 p.m.

 

Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Trustee Vanderveldt

 

On the motion of Mayor Scordino, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: approve the minutes of the previous meeting and dispense with the reading of the same.

 

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Vanderveldt and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: approve the actions taken at the monthly meeting of the Fire Council held on Tuesday, June 19, 2012. Placed Eric Rhodes of the Argyle Hose on sick

leave as of May 22, 2012.  Extended the Probationary Period of Richard Froehlich of the Fire Patrol to allow him to complete the hands on training at the County training center.

 

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO:  approve the following warrant for June 26, 2012

 

General Account:

$488,449.62

Conklin House Account:

$       140.76

Golf Course Account:

$    1,838.68

Total General Fund:

$490,429.06

Trust Fund:

$        380.10

Total:

$490,809.16

 

 

Trustee Basile announced that the herb demonstration at the Conklin House was postponed and is re-scheduled for July 17, 2012. 

 

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: hire Kevin Cox as a full time Sanitation Laborer with an annual salary of $20,800 effective June 18, 2012.

 

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile, and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: hire Lakwon Hill as a part time Sanitation Laborer with a salary of $8.50 per hour effective June 13, 2012.

 

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile, and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: hire the following:

Kerri Whalen, Swim Team Coach ($500/season)

 

ALSO RESOLVED TO: have Michael Kamme teach the Lifeguard Training Course at the pool.

 

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile, and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: grant permission to Hapi Auer to display temporary signs in merchant windows and entrance roads to the Village for the 10K Trail Run 4 to 6 weeks prior to the event.

 

Trustee Davida reported that the Village Pool is in full swing.  Trustee Davida also

thanked the Parks Dept., Highway Dept. and Skip for the great job they did getting the pool ready for the season. 

 

On the motion of Trustee Vanderveldt, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: accept the Assessor’s Petitions on the following properties, as per the attached

On section  20   block  3    lot  46, reduce the assessed value on the 2012 tax roll from $8,470.00 to $4,735.00

 

On section 15  block  3  lot  28 reduce the assessed value on the property from $43,500

To $24,530 for the 2011 tax year, and therefore issue a refund to the property owner in the amount of $2,371.25.

 

On the motion of Trustee Vanderveldt, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: hire Christopher Morra as Summer Recreation Program Supervisor with a salary of $2,500.00 for the season.

 

On the motion of Trustee Vanderveldt, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: issue a refund in the total amount of $200.00 to the following for the return of ZBA signs for a partial refund:

Richard Cosci                        $50.00

Christopher Dibenedetto        $25.00

Margaret Rohl                         $25.00

First Presbyterian Church       $50.00

Jardine Realty Corp.               $50.00

 

Trustee Vanderveldt reported that the summer recreation program is going very well with

 some 450 students and children participating in the program. 

 

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Vanderveldt and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: grant permission to the Babylon Tuna Club to hold the Annual Invitational Tuna Tournament from Thursday, July 26, 2012 up to and including Sunday, July 30th 2012.

 

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Vanderveldt and unanimously carried it was.

 

RESOLVED TO: accept the resignation of Matt Farina, effective June 12, 2012.

 

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Vanderveldt and unanimously carried it was

 

Trustee Muldowney reported that the golf course is doing well with approximately 150 women in the Women’s League and 75 in the Men’s League.

 

RESOLVED TO: hire Donald Meoli as a part time Parking Meter Officer with a salary of  $8.25 per hour effective June 15, 2012.

 

On the motion of Mayor Scordino, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: approve the following applicants a license to drive a taxi cab in the Village of Babylon for Lindy’s Taxi:

Bob Elkhatib

Ahmed Ullah

Cathleen Cordeau

                               

Mayor Scordino had three announcements:

Village of Babylon Offices will be closed and there will be no rubbish or garbage pick-up on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 in observance of the Independence Day Holiday.  Just a reminder that residents cannot put rubbish or recycling out to the curb on Holidays.  These items should be put out the following week on your regular scheduled rubbish/recycling day.

 

We will have a Farmers Market starting Sunday, July 1, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and every Sunday through November.  The Farmers Market will be located on the north side of the railroad tracks.

 

There will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, July 31st at 7:00 p.m. with LIPA.
