REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF BABYLON WAS HELD IN THE BOARDROOM 153 WEST MAIN STREET

BABYLON, NEW YORK ON TUESDAY

 

MAY 22, 2012

PRESENT: Mayor Ralph Scordino

Trustee: Kevin Muldowney

Trustee: Debbie Basile

Trustee: Tony Davida

Attorney: Joel Sikowitz

Absent: Trustee Alice Vanderveldt

 

 

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried

 

Mayor Scordino opened the work session at 7:20 p.m.

 

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried

 

Mayor Scordino adjourned the meeting at 7:55 p.m.

 

Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees opened at 8:00 p.m.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Trustee Muldowney

 

On the motion of Mayor Scordino, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: approve the minutes of the previous meeting and dispense with the reading of the same.

 

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: approve the actions taken at the meeting of the Fire Council held on Tuesday, May 15, 2012.  Placed Leland McLaughlin of the Electric Hose Company No. 4 on sick leave as of May 2, 2012.  Took Ann Mitchell of the Rescue Squad off sick leave as of May 1, 2012.  Accepted, with regret, the resignation of Richard Dahlstedt of Argyle Hose Company No. 3 effective May 7, 2012.  Change the status of Joseph Vanderveldt of the Phoenix Hose from Active Member to Senior In-Active Member. 

 

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: grant permission to Babylon Village Chamber of Commerce to maintain temporary signs at the following locations:  109 & Main St., @ 231 near

the Post Office and a vinyl banner @ Marina for the Spring Fling.  The banner must go through Mike @  Southards Boat yard.

 

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: approve the assessor petition to correct the assessment roll for the following property

Section  3  Block  2   Lot  83 – 69 Lincoln St.

 

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: increase the salary of Robert Freyer, $1,000.00, effective May28, 2012 having completed the six monthly probationary period.

On the motion of Trustee Muldowney, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: hire Joseph Porco as a part time laborer at the golf course with a salary of $7.25 per hour effective May 19, 2012.  

 

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO:hire summer employees pre-season to work on registration for the pool at $7.25 per hour.

 

ALSO RESOLVED to hire summer employees pre-season to work on clean up of the pool, at $8.50 per hour, with changeover of duties occurring on June 16, 2012, with the opening of the pool.

 

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED that the starting salary for the Summer Youth /employment Program will be $7.25 per hour, except for those students who do special jobs which have more responsibility.

 

ALSO RESOLVED that the attached is the salary schedule for the Summer Youth Employment Program for 2012.

 

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded, by Trustee Basile, and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: grant permission to the Long Island Knitting Guild to have a knit-in session at the Argyle Lake on Saturday, June 9 between the hours of 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

 

On the motion of Trustee Davida, seconded by Trustee Basile, and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: approve the following warrant for May 22, 2012

Trustee Davida reported that there have already been two sign ups for swim lessons with the last one being Saturday, June 2nd.

 

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE Records Retention and Disposition Schedule MU-1, the following items are to be disposed as of June 1, 2012

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: issue a refund in the amount of $25.00 to Kenneth Rogers, for the return of one (1) ZBA sign for a partial refund.

 

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: issue a refund in the amount of $1170.00 to Barry Corbett, his slip is being sublet for the 2012 season.

 

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: issue a refund in the amount of $25.00 for the return of one Board of Trustees sign for a partial refund.

 

On the motion of Trustee Basile, seconded by Trustee Davida and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: hire Chris Stafford for maintenance of the Rose Gardens at the Conklin house starting April 11, 2012 through October 30, 2012 at a rate of $18.00/hr not to exceed $1,000.00.  

 

On the motion of Mayor Scordino, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried

 

WHEREAS A Public Hearing was held on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 for Nocturne 111 Deer Park Ave.

 

BE IT: hereby resolved to approve the application of Mark Hrisho to open a restaurant at 111 Deer Park Ave.

 

Also be it hereby resolved to adopt the covenants and restrictions determined by the Village Attorney

 

On the motion of Mayor Scordino, seconded by Trustee Muldowney and unanimously carried it was

 

RESOLVED TO: approve the following applicant a license to drive a taxi cab in the Village of Babylon for Sunset.

Announcements:

 

Mayor Scordino announced that Village of Babylon offices will be closed and there will be no rubbish or garbage pick-up on Monday, May 28, 2012 in observance of Memorial Day Holiday. Just a reminder that residents cannot put rubbish or recycling out to the curb on holidays.  These items should be put out the following week on your regular scheduled rubbish/recycling day.

 

A Public Hearing will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. for Mathies Land Development LLC.
